Strong Eartquake in Sikkim 6.8 Magnitude Extent of Damage
6.8 magnitude earthquake on 18th September was experienced in Sikkim about 60 Kms from Gangtok. Strong tremors were felt in many parts of Delhi, Noida, Guwahati, Kolkata, Darjeeling, Patna, Punjab, Rajasthan and other parts of North and East Delhi in India.
The earthquake was so strong in Sikkim and the surrounding areas of Sikkim that some damage has been reported by un official reports. There was a power cut in Sikkim immediately after the tremors. The telephone lines were down for few minutes.
So far there is no major reports of casualty and damage due to Sikkim earthquake september 2011.
